How to use the database of the Chelyabinsk bolide video records
The main menu is always located on the first row and contains the
following functions:
list reset
search
links
configuration
export
chart
- List
Displays the list of videos according to the current configuration and
video type selection.
The second row of the list page
enables the user to select videos
of certain types: Bolide, Illumination, Trail, Wave (blast, booms),
Damage. This choice must be activated by clicking either the button
"Any
selected type (OR)" or "All selected types (AND)".
By clicking on the column headers Number, Latitude, Longitude, or Site,
the videos
can be sorted according to the respective column. The second click
reverses the order.
By clicking on the video number, the single-video
page is displayed,
showing all data for that particular video.
By clicking on one of the coordinates (if available), the location of
the video
is shown on Google Maps in a new window.
- Reset
Displays the list of all videos sorted according to the number and
using default configuration,
i.e. showing the following seven columns: Number, Latitude, Longitude,
Site, Camera description,
Video description, Primary link.
- Search
Opens the search page. Here the user can select videos taken from a
particular site using a site list (Select site - the numbers indicate
the number of videos from each site), search for any substring in site
names (Search string in site name), select cameras containing certain
descriptions (Search camera description) or search according to
geographical
coordinates. The last option requires entering the center of search
(Center of search latitude and longitude) and radius of search
(Limiting
distance (km)). If more options are entered, all of them are combined
and only videos satisfying all criteria are returned. Note, however,
that certain data (e.g. coordinates) are not available for all videos.
- Links
Lists all links presented in the database, including duplicate links,
in alphabetical order. More than one link can belong to one video. The
video number is listed on the left.
- Configuration
Allows to configure the columns to be displayed and the column
separator
for export (tabulator or semicolon).
There are 11 columns for selection (see
below). Video
number is always displayed.
The selection must be activated by clicking the OK button.
If the column "Primary link" is selected and "Duplicate and
related links" column is not selected but duplicate links do exist, the
primary link is followed by ">>" in
the database.
- Export
Exports the current list in plain text format. The exported text
is displayed in new window, from where it can be saved to local disk.
The column separator can be selected in configuration.
- Chart
Plots the positions of localized videos in a schematic map. The videos
from the current list are plotted in blue, all other videos in grey.
Also the ground projection of the Chelyabinsk bolide atmospheric
trajectory and
its fragment F1 (green lines, according to Borovicka et al., 2013,
Nature 505, 235), the position of the crater on Chebarkul lake (green
circle), and several major cities (labeled grey circles) are shown.
If the size of the area containing the selected videos is larger
than about 100 m, enlarged map showing only the selected (blue) videos
is also generated. The enlarged area is shown by black rectangle in the
overview
map.
